Workforce Development Programs


The Lowcountry Council of Governments is the administrative entity for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and employs the staff of the Workforce Development program. Lowcountry Workforce Development is a strong and vital economic partner which benefits new and existing local business and job seekers at all levels. Service programs and strategies are curate by the Lowcountry Workforce Board (LWB) to suit the needs of both employers and job seekers in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties.

For Job Seekers
There are full service SC Works Centers in Beaufort (also serves Jasper), Colleton, and Hampton counties. These facilities are hubs where clients can find a variety of employment and training resources, most offered at no cost. Job seekers can find assistance with resume writing, interview skills, and gain guidance regarding employment plans to journey towards a path of success.

For Employers
Building and maintaining a qualified motivate workforce is critical to the success of your business. SC Works Lowcountry gives you the tools you need to stay competitive in the labor market.  Services for employers include: assisting employers advertise job openings, scheduling career fairs, and providing funding to retain a competitive workforce. 

WIOA focuses on creating career pathways for job seekers through a combination of career counseling, vocational training, on the job training and apprenticeships. It works very closely with the SC Department of Employment and Workforce (SC DEW) and other regional partners to provide direct client services and support.
