The Rural Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is a comprehensive transportation planning document for the four county Lowcountry Region. The LRTP defines the overarching goals for transportation in our region, establishes existing and future transportation needs of the region and allocates projected revenue to transportation programs and projects that address those needs. Every Council of Government (COG), as well as their urban counterparts, Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO), are required to have a long-range transportation plan (LRTP). The plans must have a minimum 20-year planning horizon which acts as a guidance document for fiscally constrained transportation projects in the region. The plan is updated every 5 years to reassess the needs of the area. The LCOG Rural Area LRTP boundary, as well as its urban MPO counterpart known as LATS, can be seen in the map to the right. |

The 2045 Rural LRTP was adopted by the Lowcountry Council of Governments (LCOG) Board of Directors on May 26th, 2022. The vote for the adoption of the plan passed unanimously.
Announcements
On September 28th, 2023, the LCOG Board of Directors unanimously approved to support SCDOT's 2020-2024 state safety targets through LCOG's planning and programming activities.
On February 23rd, 2023, the LCOG Board of Directors unanimously approved to adopt SCDOT's STAMP System Performance Report 2022 as an amendment to the 2045 Rural LRTP Appendix A. LCOG will support the state’s targets through LCOG's planning and programming activities.
On September 22nd, 2022, the LCOG Board of Directors unanimously approved to support SCDOT's 2019-2023 state safety targets through LCOG's planning and programming activities.
